New Economy English hinges on usability. Makes sense, considering we are talking about how to write for people who don't read. Usability makes even more sense when studies show people don't read web pages, they scan them.

  • Designers need only Greek text with which to work.
  • Bean counters only need words to wrap around the shopping cart icons.
  • The browsing public wants to find what it's looking for, and find it in a hurry.

Modern Transactional English has more in common with PowerPoint than poetry. As a writer, there's two ways to look at it. It's either time to give up words and learn more code, or try to seize an opportunity to rewrite the web.

Pardon me for feeling ambitious. >>>
