Marketing exercise:
Are straight men losing market share?
If so, what can reverse the trend?

First question: are we
missing something obvious?

Having some fun here; taking the lament of the lonely guy on a bar stool and turning it into a marketing exercise. "Sure seems like there are more lesbians than there used to be."

Sexual preference as a question of market share.

Now when planning a project, assumptions can be dangerous, so it's fair to start our exercise with a question. Since gay women have existed throughout history, are there more lesbians now than in earlier times, or is society just more accepting, which means more people are more comfortable being open about it?

Good marketing strategies are helped by good data, but here the data is all over the map. According to exit polling from the 04 and 08 presidential elections, about 4 percent of all Americans are in an alternative lifestyle.

Historical comparisons are hard because the data is of questionable quality. Consider, for instance, a famous federal study in the 50s that was counting "homosexuals and other perverts." Good luck getting an honest answer there. Continue > >
