I've spent most of my life at arm's distance from fame and miles away from fortune, so I'm quite pleased to know somebody closing in on both.
I have a neighbor, Stephanie Sawyer, who might just be the most inventive cook you'll ever meet. She's always looking for ways to reinvent classics (like turning a classic Reuben sandwich into a dip for an appetizer) and football Sundays at her house are a combination sports bar/test kitchen.
Now a while back, she made her way into a big-time cookbook and cook-off, but all that now seems minor league. She's hit the big-time now, one of the finalists for the Pillsbury BakeOff. Next month she'll be shooting for a $1 million grand prize.
Her recipe is so simple it doesn't even call for salt and pepper. The recipe is so easy an amateur like myself has made sure to snag some Pillsbury pizza dough on my Kroger runs. The final thing, though, is forget that it's delicious -- it's beautiful to look at. Even smells great.
Here's a good place to see all the BakeOff recipes and here's where you can snag Steph's recipe. Last I checked, it was getting five star ratings, so if you try it and you like it, please do her a favor and go give her a star.
